Laibach - A Look directly into the Truth
1st of June, 25 years of Laibach existance
When a question is asked, it is done straight and without
compromise. That is because the question should determine knowledge about
the things that are comprehensible without the answers. The answer is
not the key element in the relation of the one asking the question and
those surprised by the act of asking. The key element is the very idea
to open the things, to expose the fine treated reality, to ask the question.
The question that no one expects, nor wants. It is easier to lead the
things under the ordinary flow, in a way that others want, because no
one wants to see the truth. The truth is the subject of perfidious politicization
of the presence. It is the very contortion of the reality. The other reality
in which everyone lives without knowledge or will, without motive or courage.
But the answer is here. And what happens with the response? Did anyone
try to define himself? To give the answer of the question which one has
listened, from the other, from those who are always controversial just
because seeing the truth from the other side of the perverted reality.
Laibach exist from the essence of their country. They exist
as the essence of their time and the history of their time. They do not
abandon their own collectivity, in all its essence. Collectivity is an
identification point, a way to understand the past, a possibility to deny
the presence. It is negation of the time spirit which can be more destructive
than the so called Laibach negativism. Although they have always worked
from the very core of the life, making from it their own triumph over
the dilemma of the presence, the positivism is the first definition when
it comes to analyzing their work. If it is hard, destinate, and not always
comfortable for accepting, it is not their fault, it is the reality itself.
It is the same misunderstanding produced by the symbolism and aesthetics
that were used. Difficult confrontation with the evil imagination of the
same common past, which everyone lives according to its need as a selective
presence. Collective memory is not individual, and remembers what someone
doesn’t want to see. The Laibach collectivity does not allow at all mistake
of the individual, and eventually concession from the truth. It is not
opposite of the emotionality and sensitivity, because the music is the
feeling, and the art of creating and making music is the talent of the
mind. Nothing can be made just by intuition, by problematizing own authentisity,
though thought is what leads the things on their place, by every year
that passed with existance of the collective which woke up the memories
from the past - Laibach.
Who are the ones creating the presence? Can one attempt
change it? Is the Laibach's attempt our experience which should open their
question, as our own? And is it one of the aims of the art? If what we
call art has any aims. Because nobody wants to hear the beautiful things
in a simple way anymore. As just a few in the totality are trying to hear
the speech or to understand the appearance of the art collective Laibach.
To understand their constancy in creation of the simple things. For is
there something more simple than the wish to know its own time and its
flow? What makes it like that, so strange for us? Strangers in our own
home. In our own space in the virtuality of the state which raised from
the long experiencing of the reality of Laibach, the state of NSK, although
they confronted directly with their own nationality. They reaffirmed their
culture in a spectacular way. And Laibach decided to build their own state,
a counterpart of a real one, to overcome every possibility to be defined
just as an art collective. They went far beyond that, searching and finding
their example in the history, knowing wisely that originality is not the
aim that human creativity searches for. The same stands for the creativity
of their collectivity, which was and still is one of the most revolutionary
ideas of creation, but the reality always wanted to equate Laibach and
the collectivity of the recent political systems. But at the same time
forgetting that nobody has the right of the exclusive definition and determination
of the past on the base of our present. Laibach determined the eternity
as their law, although the cognition of the eternity means confronting
the death and life, the beginning and the end, as the moment of the temptation
and experience, and not as acceptance of the fear.
Laibach were, are and will be a controversity for the mind
of the present. The world, at least until now has not confronted with
its mistakes, with its past, and non-existing future. No matter how easy
is the momentally escape from the thinking about the answer to the question
of Laibach, everyone will come once to the same dilemma. Is the possibility
of cognition a privilege of someone else, and not the ability of everyone
to confront the problem of the possibility to change the attitude toward
the things which are ours. Is that other in fact our fear to look directly
in the truth? And there no one knows what will see. Laibach did not know
as well, but at least they looked in it.
